Corporate Training and Development/eLearning is a huge market, currently estimated at more than 48 billion dollars annually. Some of the major companies serving this market are:

  • Microsoft eLearn - Microsoft's center for technology, content and eLearning. Visit their Resources for Online Learning, and their many online learning resource links.
  • ExamSoft Worldwide - Computerized testing software and services.
  • Skillsoft - Formerly SmartForce and before that, CBT Systems— provides a broad range of eLearning solutions in more than 26 countries around the world.
  • Educational Multimedia Corporation - A subsidiary of the Educational Multimedia Group, a multinational training company.
  • Sun SITE from Sun Microsystems - Worldwide Education and Research, Information and Technology Exchange. Plan to spend some considerable time in this website, due to the large amount of information presented. Of particular note is Sun's Sun Ray™ Enterprise Appliance, and Sun Educational Services.
  • Centra - Provides integrated e-Learning environments over the Internet. Formerly MindLever.com.
  • Apple Computer - Search Apple's site for "distance learning" and you will find a wide variety of resources.

The hottest trend on the Internet/Intranet are online courses. Here are a few sites I found:

  • Training and Development Pointers on the Web. Over a year has gone into the preparation of these resources. An excellent place to start for references to other distance education resources.
  • ASEE Clearinghouse for Engineering Education contains listings of engineering articles, plus some great links, and good theoretical articles on distance learning.
  • Portland Community College is known for its employee contract training. They are in the process of developing on-line courses and focusing on reaching out to companies so employees can take courses without leaving their office.
  • AT& T Center for Excellence in Distance Learning contains some excellent examples of the application of distance learning technology. It is an attempt to interest businesses in distance learning as a training vehicle. Contains an excellent glossary of distance learning terms.
  • National Mortgage Investor's Institute offers residency and alternative learning opportunities for individuals who want to learn how to set up and operate a successful business brokering and investing in private mortgages.

Medical Continuing Education /CME/Telemedicine

  • Cmecourses.com A large portal for Continuing Medical Education course opportunities ranging from Dermatology and Family Practice to Internal Medicine and Radiation, plus many others.
  • An Interactive Tutorial on Normal Radiology Published by the College of Medicine at the University of Florida, this is a small demonstration of Radiologic Anatomy. You'll need a 256 color monitor to truly enjoy this demo!
  • Distance Learning in Medicine An excellent compendium of examples of distance learning in medicine with links to hypertext databases, hypertext, images and case studies at colleges and universities around the world. Includes links to sites for medical case studies with CME credits, multimedia databases, and many others.

Corporate Training, Associations, Professional Development

  • Nurseweek - Online home of the California nursing publication. Site includes info on continuing education, jobs, and health care links. From this page, you can jump to one of Nurseweek's on-line continuing education articles. You can read any of these articles on-line, or you can print out hard copies to read and store. Includes an on-line exam returned by e-mail, fax, or postal mail You can earn one continuing education hour for each article you read, which can be applied toward your continuing education requirements.
  • The Financial Services University was created to provide a turn-key solution to the continuing education needs of the financial services community including firms, individual employees and customers. Recently, there have been continuing education mandates set forth by both the securities and insurance industries. The Financial Services University represents a "one-stop-shopping" solution to these mandates by providing the services found on this site.
