How do I find a college (or organization)
that offers a course in (accounting, business -- you name it)?
The best method of locating a specific
class or course, is to use one of the many excellent course finders
listed on my classes page. Some of
these search engines list 10's of thousands of classes worldwide.
In addition, the majority of colleges
these days offer some type of online or distance education courses.
Use one of the college finders, also listed on my classes
page, to locate the college or university in which you are
interested. Go to the college web site and do a search for distance
education or learning.
How do I know if a college or distance
learning institution is any good?
Reputable colleges and schools are accredited.
In the case of new schools, such as many of the new high schools
on the web, they may be in the process of gaining accreditation.
A partial listing of accrediting agencies are found on my organizations
page.
Beware of diploma mills (rip-off
scams who sell
diplomas for cash) and unaccredited institutions!
I've developed a course that I would
like to offer on-line. Who can help me with this?
There are several on-line organizations who
develop on-line courses and then resell them to educational institutions.
Other vendors or consultants, listed on my vendors
page, may be interested in purchasing your course, or assisting
you in distributing it.
I have been instructed to formulate
a training plan for Online Training of several managers, however,
this is where I run into trouble. I was wondering if you would mind
providing me with a little insight into some techniques used for
the assessment of "online based training?"
Typically, when you are asked to assess the
effects of on-line training, the underlying statement is: "Prove
to me that online based training is effective." The best
way to approach this is to ask your boss, peer groups, etc., "How
do you know when you've been to a 'quality' educational program?"
or "What type of measurable results would indicate to you
that online training is a good investment?"
Don't get caught up in meaningless discussions
on the pros and cons of online learning per se. On-line training
is simply another method and technique for training, and as such
can be either good or bad, effective or ineffective, depending
on the quality of the content, presentation, and learning assessment
techniques. The focus you should have is upon learning -- not
the method or delivery channel by which learning occurs.
The cardinal rule in assessment is to ask "What
is it that you are trying to assess?" Determine those criteria
which are important and relevant to your situation. Then develop
a questionnaire, focus group or other data collection method,
collect your data, summarize the results, and then ask for permission
to proceed with your program.
